I Roll to Disbelieve
I just read the Doctrine of the Two Swords. It's interesting, but I think it's more of a rational for governments to hold power than a useful idea. Pay special attention to the second half if you read it.
Don't worry, this will all make sense in the morning

"The restraint to evil and lawlessness, which God has provided, is government...Any lawful government is an institution of God to restrain lawless and evil mankind."
"those who serve in the governments of the world in the police forces, the judicial forces and the armed forces, are ministers of God in restraining evil and bringing about peace and justice. In so doing they are following the highest standards of love."
What made you want to read this bullshit?
Fucking posts keep getting deleted.
Anyway, apparently the theory was big with the Germans in the early rennaisance, around the time they were killing each other with big mercenary armies.
I find it interesting how religion changes as its followers gain more power and a greater interest in order.
Yeah, I'm interested in the topic as well...I actually wrote a couple papers on it last semester for a history class.
I was mainly asking why you decided to read this particular book. Where did you hear about it?
I think I saw the doctrine mentioned in a message board or comments section somewhere. I have this little file with books and links and songs and artists that I keep around so I remember to look them up.
the Doctrine of the Two Swords was just one of those, so I'm not sure where or when I heard it.
